Delysia is 2009 Women’s Handicap Singles Champ - by Novice
Saturday morning saw Delysia Mitchley and Val Jackson do battle for a spot in the finals of the Women’s Handicap Singles competition. It was a very closely contested game, with both players producing some brilliant shots. On the 21st. end the game peeled, 22nd. end Val was holding shot then Delysia delivered her last bowl, took Val out and picked up three points – game over. Sunday morning Delysia and Margaret Eitner played the final game in the competition. Margaret led up to the 10th. end, then Delysia came to the party and went on to win. Congratulations to Delysia and Margaret, winner and runner-up of the Women’s Handicap Singles competition. Two Mixed Drawn Pairs competition games were played on Sunday, Noreen Butler and Robbie Roberts took on Glen Scorgie and Cally Boyd, Noreen and Robbie emerged the winners from this game. In the second game Gerald Chander-Royle and Marilyn Thiart played against Neil Oberholzer and Adrie Harmse, the game peeled four times before Gerald and Marilyn won by one point. Noreen and Robbie, Gerald and Marilyn now go through to the next round. Men’s Drawn Pairs saw one game being played this past weekend. Saturday morning Adie Fuller and Dallas Davis locked horns with Glen Scorgie and Robbie Roberts. Adie and Dallas were on top form and walked off the green as winners. Saturday 24th. sees the final of the Men’s Handicap Singles taking place between Sean Roberts and George Harris. Men’s Senior finals game, between Brian Diener and Bill Rawlinson to be arranged and played in the near future. Two Twini teams participated in the Berea Men’s Novice Pairs competition on Saturday morning. Team Dave Jackson and John Crichton won their first game by one point and team George Harris and Doug Joubert were unlucky to lose their game by two points. Dave and John go through to the next round to be played on 24th. October. Women’s Trips were played on Wednesday 14th. October winners being Dalene Pretorius, Ann Myburgh and Ruth da Canha. Section winners were Marlene van der Westhuizen, Daphne Ryan and Adrian Robbins with the board being won by Hazel Willis. Please will all bowlers entered in the Mixed Drawn Pairs and Mens Drawn Pairs take note of the following : Competition games to be played this Saturday and Sunday, morning and afternoon, check notice board to book a green. Both competitions are to be completed before 23rd. November, scratching rule will apply if no attempt is made to play. Alec Stirzaker lost out on R450 on Friday evening, prize money in this weeks attendance draw is R500 – be at the club to stand a chance of winning. Meat draw was won by Marc Grobler and Chris Tredoux, with Marvin Palframan winning first and second prize in the money draw and Pete Callaghan pocketing third prize.

Rose and Susan romp home in Women’s Drawn Pairs final , George crowned Men’s Handicap Singles winner. By Novice
It was relatively busy weekend at Twini club with Women’s Drawn Pairs and Men’s Handicap Singles competitions being finalised and some games being played in the Men’s Drawn and Mixed Drawn Pairs competitions. Saturday afternoon Noreen Butler and Pat Kirk took to the greens against Margaret Eitner and Denise Bingham in the semi-final game of the Women’s Drawn pairs competition. Margaret and Denise led up to the 17th. end, Noreen and Pat picked up 2 points on the 18th. end and game peeled. Noreen and Pat went on to win their game and went through to the final that was played on Sunday morning. In cool, overcast weather Rose Daniel and Susan Erasmus competed against Noreen and Pat to see who would emerge the winners of the competition. Nothing could stop Rose and Susan, they were on a mission and as a result they are the 2009 champions with Noreen and Pat worthy runners-up. Congratulations and well played both teams. Delysia Mitchley, women’s competition secretary, thanks all the lady members for the time and effort put in to finish all competitions timeously. George Harris and Sean Roberts locked horns in the Men’s Handicap Singles final played on Saturday afternoon. It was a short, sharp tussle and George emerged the 2009 champion with Sean the runner-up. Congratulations gentlemen. Two games were played in the Mixed Drawn Pairs competition. In the first game Rose Daniel and Mike Roberts played against Leo Verwijk and Lynn Clifton, Rose and Mike put up a good performance and walked off the winners. Sunday morning saw Tony Daniel and his partner Leonie Mills take on Bill Rawlinson and Val Jackson. This was a very closely contested game, no quarter given or received and not even the huge explosion that occurred in the vicinity could distract the players, even though the ground moved! The game peeled on the 20th. end, Bill and Val stayed focused and picked up three points on the last end to win the game. Rose and Mike, Bill and Val now go through to the next round of the competition. In the Men’s Drawn Pairs Bill Rawlinson and Doug Joubert led from the start in their game against Alf Bingham and Philip Van Der Walt whilst Terry Morgan and his partner Dennis Hughes fought it out with Dave Gardner and John Crichton after game peeled on 18th. end. Terry and Dennis won the last three ends so go through to the next round, as do Bill and Doug. Dave Jackson & John Crichton are through to the next round of the Berea Novice Pairs competition after winning their game against Hilary. Twini wishes them all the best for their next game against Durban BC. Women’s 2-4-2 was played last Thursday, the winners were Marlene Van Der Westhuizen and Adrienne Robbins with second session being won by Rose Montgomery and Susan Erasmus. The board was won by Sue Welch. Thank you goes to Marilyn and the team for tea and sandwiches. Please will all members check the notice board for carded games in the Mixed Drawn and Men’s Drawn Pairs competitions to be played weekend of 31st. October/1st. November. Our club attendance draw is getting interesting, there are now two draws. Prize money in the first draw is capped at R500 and second draw has R150 in the kitty. John Crichton left the club rather early on Friday so missed out on winning R500. Meat draw was won by Doug Lane and Sean Roberts, money draw saw three ladies putting money into their purses. Adrie Harmse, Leonie Mills and Rose Daniel were the lucky recipients. Be at the club to participate in the attendance draw, it could be your lucky day!

Club competitions on track, by Novice
Dave Jackson is walking round with a big smile on his face, there was a positive response to the playing of club competition games and Dave would like to thank all bowlers who participated. Seven games were played in the Mixed drawn pairs competition and three in the men’s drawn pairs. In the men’s drawn pairs Leo Verwijk and Robbie Hamilton played against Vince Marriott and James Milne. Leo and Robbie went into the lead on the 5th. end and didn’t look back which resulted in them meeting up with Terry Morgan and Dennis Hughes on Sunday. In this game Terry and Dennis walked off the winners, but didn’t have everything their own way, Leo and Robbie put up a spirited fight and the game could have gone either way. Alan Rowe and his partner Stan Shawe took to the green against Roger Kirk and George Harris. Roger and George were on form and won their game, they now go through to the next round as do Terry and Dennis. Well played guys. The mixed drawn pairs was a popular competition this past weekend. Delysia Mitchley and John Crichton took on Phillip van der Walt and his partner Susan Erasmus in a closely contested game. There was only one point difference in the score on the 19th. end but experience paid off and Delysia and John won the game. Gerald Chander-Royle and Marilyn Thiart proved to be too strong in their game against Rose Daniel and Mike Roberts, George Harris and Gladys Hughes pipped Di Robinson and Doug Joubert to the post , Margaret Eitner and partner Dave Jackson had an uphill struggle against Alf Bingham and Pat Kirk, but won on the last end. Sunday morning three more games were played in the competition. Noreen Butler and Robbie Roberts led from the start in their game against Adie Fuller and Denise Bingham, Stan Shawe partnered by Nola Corrigall won their game against Vince Marriott and Dalene van der Walt, Alan Rowe and Gayle Windrim put in a good performance to win their game against Margaret Eitner and Dave Jackson. Delysia and John, Gerald and Marilyn, George and Gladys, Noreen and Robbie, Stan and Nola, Alan and Gayle all go through to the next round. Please would all competitors check the notice board for carded games the weekend of 7th/8th. November. The spectators who went along to watch all the competitions were treated to some good bowls. Thanks for your support, see you all this weekend. The Berea men’s novice pairs competition saw Dave Jackson and John Crichton bowing out after making it through to the quarter finals. Well done both of you. Some of our novice lady bowlers participated in the first round of the Berea women’s novice pairs competition on Saturday morning. Nola Corrigall and Leonie Mills, Gayle Windrim and Denise Bingham won their games so go through to the next round. Pat Kirk and Lynn Clifton played a good game, left a lasting impression but sadly didn’t make it through. Good luck this coming weekend Nola, Leonie, Gayle and Denise, keep the Twini flag flying. To all the club members who leave on Monday for the annual bowls trip to the berg – travel safely, have a great time and enjoy the bowls competition. John Crichton lost out on the attendance draw 2 weeks ago but made up for it when he won all three prizes in the money draw on Friday evening. Meat draw was won by Gayle Windrim and Colin C. Pat Kirk was at the club to claim R500 in the attendance draw as was James Milne who went home R150 richer. This week prize money in attendance draw is R150.

Novices through to semi-final, by Novice
The new kids on the block have done Twini proud by making it through to the semi-finals of the Berea women’s novice pairs competition. Denise Bingham and Gayle Windrim, Nola Corrigall and Jeanette Els defeated the two Berea club teams on Saturday morning, keeping the Twini flag flying high. They’ll be back in action again this Saturday so go along and support them at Berea bowling club. Well done and great bowling, we’re all really proud of you. Gayle and Nola went on to play in a club competition on Saturday afternoon, there’s no keeping these girls down. Three games were played in the mixed drawn pairs competition over the weekend. Saturday afternoon Noreen Butler and Robbie Roberts took on Alan Rowe and Gayle Windrim and although Alan and Gayle played some good bowls Noreen and Robbie took the lead on the 6th. end and didn’t look back. Delysia Mitchley and John Crichton played against Stan Shawe and Nola Corrigall, this was a closely contested game but at the end Delysia and John triumphed. Sunday morning saw George Harris and Gladys Hughes take to the green against Bill Rawlinson and Val Jackson. George and Gladys were on form, played good bowls and walked off the winners. Noreen and Robbie, Delysia and John, George and Gladys now go through to the next round. One game was played in the men’s drawn pairs competition, Roger Kirk and George Harris competed against Dallas Davis and Adie Fuller. News of the game is rather sketchy as the score card was accidently taken home by one of the bowlers who came second and lives in Hillcrest, but who shall remain anonymous. Dallas and Adie won their game and are through to the next round. There was a holiday atmosphere at the club early Sunday morning, as a number of bowlers met up before heading off for their week in the berg. They were going to breakfast at Escourt and lunch at their hotel, have a relaxing Sunday afternoon before commencing the bowls competition on Monday. Have a wonderful time, see you all when you get back this weekend. A reminder about the women’s 2-4-2 to be played on the 26th. November. If you would like to participate in this Christmas competition please confirm with Trudy Hill before the 26th; thereby avoiding disappointment on the day. Twini A.G.M. takes place on Saturday 28th. November. Nominations for the club executive and committee close on the 15th. November, please get your nominations in as soon as possible, duly signed by all parties. The meat draw on Friday evening was won by George Harris and Vince Marriott, these guys could open a butchery they’ve won this draw so often. Lady luck smiled on Adrie Harmse when she won first prize in the money draw, with Vince (again) Marriott and James Milne pocketing second and third prize. Shane Tocher wasn’t at the club to claim his prize in the attendance draw, this week’s prize money is R200, be there to win

Denise and Gayle through to Berea novice finals , by Novice
Denise Bingham and Gayle Windrim, two of our “new kids on the block” have made it through to the final of the Berea novice pairs competition. They played their socks off against Berea to emerge the winners, and now play against Stella Park on Saturday morning at Berea bowling club, please go along to support them. Denise has been playing bowls for nineteen months and Gayle has only been playing the game since the beginning of this year, their performance in this novice competition has been fantastic and both are congratulated for making it through to the final. Twini club is justifiably proud of these two ladies, Twini flag is flying real high. Saturday afternoon saw a semi-final game being played in the Mens drawn pairs competition when Bill Rawlinson and Doug Joubert took to the green against Terry Morgan and Dennis Hughes. Up to the 10th. end Terry and Dennis led the way then Bill and Doug decided it was time to come to the party, and party they did, to make it through to the final on Sunday. The clash of the Titans took place on Sunday morning when Bill and Doug met up to do battle with Dallas Davis and Adie Fuller. The game peeled on the 5th. end then Bill and Doug surged ahead and on the 16th. end the score was 19-11. It looked like the game was in the bag but Dallas and Adie played some good shots, won the next four ends, for the game to peel again on the 20th. end. The last end was a real humdinger, there was one more bowl to be delivered, Doug, Dallas and Adie agreed it was a measure between the bowls near the kitty, Bill strolled up the green to take a look, liked what he saw and declared his last bowl. Bill and Doug won their game by one shot, they are the 2009 Mens drawn pairs champions and Dallas and Adie are worthy runners-up. Congratulations and well played gentlemen. The semi-final games in the mixed drawn pairs competition takes place on Saturday afternoon, with the final being played on Sunday morning, 22nd. November. Our intrepid travelers returned from the berg over the weekend, with two of the teams taking third and fourth place in the bowls competition. Brian Diener, Dave Gardner, Noreen Butler and Marilyn Thiart took third place and fourth place was won by Tony and Rose Daniel and Alf and Denise Bingham. From all accounts a really good time was had by all. The Women’s trips competition was played on Wednesday 11th. November and winners were Joy Hanson, Alice Beukes and Estella Van Der Merwe. Second session was won by Val Clark, Bobby Stewart and Bab Swarts, with the board being won by Maureen Warrior. The Twini women’s 2-4-2 takes place on 26th. November, please put your name down as soon as possible If you wish to play – there’s lots of prizes to be won and fun in the offing, don’t miss out. Reminder about the club AGM taking place on 28th. November, this will be followed by prizegiving. Dave Jackson has asked that bowlers who have club trophies in their possession to return them to the club as soon as possible. Monty Montgomery could have won R200 in the attendance draw on Friday evening, unfortunately he wasn’t at the club to claim his prize, so this week there is R250 in the kitty. Meat draw was won by Di Robinson and Nola Corrigall, money draw saw Mike Roberts pocketing first and second prize with Marc Grobler taking home the third prize. See you at the club on Friday.

Valiant comeback makes Noreen and Robbie Twini winners,by Novice
Saturday afternoon saw the semi-final games in the Mixed Drawn Pairs being played. In the first game George Harris and his partner Gladys Hughes played against Gerald Chalder-Royle and Marilyn Thiart. George and Gladys led from the start and didn’t look back, game was over after 17 ends. The second game saw Noreen Butler and her partner Robbie Roberts take to the green against Delysia Mitchley and John Crichton. Noreen and Robbie led for the first seven ends, then it was Delysia and John’s turn to shine and they surged ahead for the next five ends before Noreen and Robbie found their groove again and went on to win. George and Gladys, Noreen and Robbie went through to the final on Sunday morning. Sunday morning dawned bright and sunny, perfect weather for bowls. The final chapter in the Mixed Drawn Pairs was about to unfold as Noreen and Robbie, George and Gladys took to the green. George and Gladys played some excellent shots and were 13-2 up on the 5th. end. They picked up another shot on the 8th. end and that was their lot for the next 8 ends as Noreen and Robbie made an amazing comeback, score being 16-14 in their favour on the 16th. end. George and Gladys fought back, Noreen and Robbie put up a good defence and the game peeled on the 20th. end. The last end of the game was nailbiting for players and spectators alike, Noreen and Robbie picked up one shot and with it became the 2009 Mixed Drawn Pairs champions, with George and Gladys the runners-up. Congratulations and well played to all the bowlers, this game had more thrills then a rollercoaster ride. Our novices, Denise Bingham and Gayle Windrim went through to Berea BC on Saturday morning to play their final game in the Berea Novice Pairs competition. They played against a more experienced team from Stella Park but showed what potential they have and gave the Stella Park bowlers a run for their money. Supporters were treated to a really good game of bowls and Denise and Gayle are to be congratulated on being the runners-up in this competition. With novices of this calibre in our club, Twini’s name is being put on the map. Women’s 2-4-2 takes place on Thursday 26th. November , there’s plenty of prizes up for grabs and a fun morning to be had by all the ladies who have entered the competition. All members are requested to attend the Club’s AGM on Saturday 28th. November, time - 12:30 for 13:00, dress code is casual except for committee. This will be followed by prizegiving and a braai. With all club competitions now completed, the Twini committee have decided that all games will be played in mufti until further notice. Our annual Christmas party takes place on the evening of 15th. December, resident DJ “Dr. Smooth “( Alf Bingham) will be playing all your favourites and getting you up on the dance floor. This is always a popular event so please put your name down if you wish to be there, lists are on the notice boards. Friday night’s meat draw was won by Cynthia Simpson and Scorgie, money draw was won by Gladys Hughes with Lynn Clifton and Colin C. winning second and third prizes. Attendance draw would have seen Pam Chalder-Royle R250 richer but as she wasn’t at the club there is R300 in the kitty for this week’s draw. Be at the club to win.

Dallas Davis new president of Twini BC, by Novice
Saturday was extremely busy at Twini BC, what with the AGM, prize giving and then a braai. But being who they are, club members took it in their stride and made the most of a very pleasant afternoon and evening. To get the serious business out the way the AGM was held first, to elect the new committee. Dallas Davis is the new club president and he will be ably assisted by Glen Scorgie, mens vice-president and Rose Daniel , ladies vice-president. Executive committee comprises Vince Marriott and Dave Jackson, treasurer is once again Chris Van Der Westhuizen and secretary, Di Robinson. Competition secretaries Dave Jackson and Delysia Mitchley were returned unopposed, they did such a good job this year. All club members wish the new sheriff and his deputies a successful and productive year. Prizegiving was held immediately after the AGM. It was the culmination of a years bowling in club competitions, as winners went up to collect their trophies. Congratulations go to all the worthy recipients, your competitiveness and dedication paid off resulting in you being club champions for 2009. Special mention must be made of the following : Mens’ most improved novice, Sean Roberts. Womens’ most improved player, Denise Bingham. These two novices have come along in leaps and bounds and will be making their mark for many years to come. George Harris is Mens’ player of the year and Delysia Mitchley is Womens’ player of the year, with Dallas Davis being awarded the Club member of the year trophy. The Figjam academy presented a specially commissioned floating trophy to the club, and the first recipient is Doug Joubert. He will no doubt be keeping a watchful eye on his fellow Figjam colleagues in 2010, so he can pass on this prestigious trophy next year! Womens 2-4-2 was changed to trips on the 26th. November and what a festive occasion it was. Thanks go to Trudie Hill and Marilyn Thiart for all their hard work in putting the fun morning together and obtaining special treats for the ladies. Winners were Pam Chalder-Royle, Lynn Clifton and Pat Kirk, runners-up Marina Clarke, Rose Daniel and Yvonne Hooper. The 1st. session winners were Maureen Warrior, Ruth De Canha and Jeanette Clarence with Mary Erdis, Margaret Eitner and Estelle Van Der Merwe winning 2nd. session. Most bowls was won by Isabelle Milne, Maureen and Val Jackson. A spider was held before the start of play and winner of this was Jeanette Clarence. A special thank you goes to Mark Brodie for the champagne and Jannie for the orange juice, as well as Checkers Doonside for the donation of delicious mince pies and chocolates. There will be no trips in December, so to all ladies have a happy festive season , see you in the new year. Our Christmas party is on the 15th. December, if you haven’t already done so please put your names down on the list, Marilyn requires numbers for the caterer. This is going to be a fantastic evening so don’t miss out! DJ “Dr Smooth” will have you up on the floor dancing the night away, and no doubt Lynn and Marilyn will have a game or two up their sleeves to add to the fun. Social bowls will be played on weekends, dress code is mufti until 9th. January when whites will, once again, be worn.. Mike Langlois walked off with R300 by being at the club and winning the attendance draw on Friday evening, this week prize money is back to R150. Meat draw winners were Cynthia Simpson and Neil Oberholzer with the money draw being won by Andy Lawson. Marie Crichton and Betty Rees were the winners of the second and third prizes. To all the “Twini family”, Toti and Winkle bowlers, staff of Southcoast Sun and all readers, seasons greetings and all the best for 2010.
